Armour-Stiner House (a.k.a. The Octagon House)

One of my favorite things to see during a walk on the Old Croton Aqueduct is the Octagon House, which is officially named  the Armour-Stiner House. It is a National Historic Landmark within our lil' village and is thought to be the only domed octagonal home in the world.

Back in 1993, the New York Times did a feature on it, describing it as "something out of a Victorian fairy tale." Read the full article here.

Also of note, the exterior was used in the Julie Taymor film Across the Universe. Bono, who chewed the scenery in a small role in the flick (playing Dr. Robert), was seen in a bus that was outside the place.

While I'm not a pink house kinda girl (sorry, John Cougar Mellencamp), there's something about this shapely home that always stops me in my tracks.

Very interesting. Didn't know it was in Across the Universe - I will have to request the movie from the Library.

it's an unusual scene - octagon house is, through cgi, magically on an island.
